The new devices are the industry’s first automotive-qualified switching power supply ICs to incorporate a silicon carbide (SiC) primary switching MOSFET. 800-volt batteries are becoming standard for EVs. These new parts consume less than 15 mW at no-load, which is ideal for reducing self-discharge in battery management systems.

All four electric machines have to be able to run simultaneously—two for propulsion, one for the range extender to provide extra battery power, and one for electric power takeoff, if fire-fighters want to rotate the foam pump for example. The range extender systems are adapted to the specifications of each battery-powered vehicle model, making this a non-intrusive, integrated hybridization solution.
