After some consideration, I purchased a 2x4basics custom workbench kit (which provides the bench's heavy-gauge structural resin supports) and lumber to form the main structure, and then cut slabs of chipboard to form a top and a bottom surface. The 2x4basics kit came with shelves, providing space for plastic storage boxes.

On entering the car, this orb glows like an intricately weaved electrical hob (if you choose orange/red as your ambient light). Ambient colours also illuminate the door innards like a city light installation, while looming large in each A-pillar at the dashboard sides are digital screens to replace door mirrors. Or beer fridge.

Not cheap, but there still feels like decent value here. Service intervals are annual or every 25,000km, and aren’t cheap for an EV. There are cheaper small electric SUVs available, but the Niro hits the sweet spot for decent space, classy cabin, drive experience and range. You can drive one away for a whisker under $100k.
