The BMW Group today issued a statement in response to published reports that have incorrectly stated that the size of the fleet of BMW ActiveEs ( earlier post ) that will be deployed during the BMW Group’s second-phase field trial in the US will be limited to 200 vehicles. Let me reassure you that nothing could be further from the truth.

The BMW Group will launch its Megacity Vehicle in 2013, said Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, on Thursday ahead of the Auto China 2010 show in Beijing. During the test phase some 50 MINI E cars are also being delivered to customers in China in 2010. A Concept ActiveE is in the background.

The road map for a new energy vehicle presented at Auto China 2010 in Beijing includes the consistent expansion of both development expertise and value-creation potential in China. The worldwide MINI E fleet trial was extended to China at the beginning of the year, involving the sites of Beijing and Shenzhen.

Beginning in 2011 in the US, Europe and China, a test fleet of more than 1,000 BMW ActiveE vehicles, produced at BMW’s Leipzig plant, will provide further insights into the everyday use of the vehicle. Unlike the MINI E, the BMW ActiveE features a distinctive “intermediate position” of the accelerator pedal, allowing the vehicle to “glide”.
