However, in the USA critics are taking shots at the proposals before they are even implemented. An article in the New York Times criticised the so-called “cash for clunkers&# legislation that would give people vouchers worth as much as $4,500 to replace old cars with new ones. We’re happy we’re well on our way with plug-in cars. Well, America’s auto industry delivered over 100,000. Since our cars and trucks use almost two-thirds of the oil we buy, the quickest way to cut oil use is to free transportation from its grip. It helps that the auto industry will be building more efficient new vehicles.

This growth is no small feat considering overall car sales have been falling in the past two years. Furthermore, a BCG report from earlier this year even predicted EV sales to overtake internal combustion engine (ICE) car sales by 2030. Outside of Europe, the US and China have experienced a sharp decrease in overall car sales as well.
