A few Tesla China owners went under the Model Y Performance vehicle’s hood and discovered that it was using a new 12-volt lithium-ion battery. When MIC Model Y Performance deliveries first started, a few owners noticed the upgrade, commenting that Tesla switched from a 12V lead-acid battery to a 16V lithium-ion battery.

This is sorely needed, and no one else in the auto industry has anything like it. In the span of 15 years, the industry has gone from lead-acid to nickel-metal-hydride to the lithium-ion batteries used in Ford C-MAX and Ford Fusion hybrids on the road today.

The MiEV runs on a lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged in seven or so hours on a 240-volt line. Today we could be using lead-acid EVs, lead-carbon-acid EVs, or nickel metal hydride or lithium-ion hybrids.

One wonders if the recent headway at MIT in building lithium ion cells using ?virus? 80 miles was the range of the EV1 with Lead Acid batteries, that GM tried to use because they wanted the project to fail. with lithium the range would be 300 miles. Forget the black helicopter conspiracies. Interesting in any case.
