AeroVironment had encouraged its engineers to take creative initiative in developing the Impact, but GM tightly managed efforts to translate the idiosyncratic car into a production prototype, which rankled Cocconi and Rippel. The result was a demonstration project, a task organized by Alec Brooks , manager of ACP’s tzero production.

GM ATV was responsible for the development and production of the GM EV-1; his organization also developed and produced the S-10 Electric Truck and developed the GM Precept Hybrid Vehicle, which was part of President Clinton’s Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) program. The grid today could handle many millions of EVs charging late at night when rates are lowest. By 2012, we should have made some progress on this, just in time to re-elect Obama to his second term. Several automakers, including Ford, have partnered with Edison to ensure those cars can get their electricity from somewhere.

Partnering with Alcoa, Duke Energy, Google.org, Johnson Controls Indiana startup plans to unveil vehicle May 2009 at EVS-24 in Norway; mass production in 2012. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.
