The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt announced the completion of the Midterm Evaluation (MTE) process for the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for cars and light trucks for model years 2022-2025, and his final determination that the current standards are not appropriate and should be revised.

The US auto industry, via the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, is lining up to support a new national, harmonized program to reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption that President Obama will announce on Tuesday, 19 May. Autos represent 17% of all anthropogenic CO 2 in the US, according to EPA.

In April of this year a senior EPA official said they may need another year to complete the durability testing. That is a concern for the auto industry and we hope that is a concern for the DOE and EPA. The original testing involved 13 cars and they drove an average of 500-1,000 miles. Charles Territo. The US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to grant California’s request to carry out its own clean car standards not only clears the way for the Schwarzenegger-led state to cut its own greenhouse gas emissions, but it is likely to effect at least 13 additional states too.

When automakers and the Obama White House announced agreement on a single national standard for emissions and fuel economy last May, the entire auto industry heaved a huge sigh of relief. Court of Appeals to suspend the EPA's 2012. The issue was settled, at least until 2016.
