Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology is a bi-directional electric grid interface that allows a plug-in to take energy from the grid or put it back on the grid. Recent announcements demonstrate that electric utilities and some auto makers want to make V2G a reality. Smart meters and substations will be integral.

The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. As for building cars no one wants – when the March sales numbers came out the Detroit 3 outsold the Transplant 5 with Toyota behind General Motors and only slightly ahead of Ford by 8,000 vehicles.
