Battery electric cars emit less greenhouse gases and air pollutants over their entire life cycle than petrol and diesel cars, according to a European Environment Agency (EEA) report. So far, only two EU Member States (Austria and Sweden) have reached the 10% target.

The fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the European Union (EU) continued to improve last year but at a slower rate, according to provisional data from the European Environment Agency. In comparison with 2015, the average mass of new cars sold in 2016 in the EU increased slightly to reach 1,388 kg.

The annual status report released by the European Environment Agency (EEA) shows that while EU-27 emissions for three air pollutants are projected to meet the ceilings, nitrogen oxides (NO x ) emissions for the EU-27 as a whole will exceed its ceiling by 17%.

Researchers led by a team from Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in Austria have shown that singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) forms in the cathode of a Li–O 2 battery during discharge and from the onset charge, and that it is responsible for a major fraction of side products that cause fast ageing in the battery.

The European Community’s air pollutant emission inventory report released by the European Environment Agency finds that in 2007, sulphur oxides (SO x ) emissions were down by 72 % from 1990 levels. The data viewer can show emission trends for the main sectors and allows comparison of emissions between different countries and activities.

After performing a comparative study of network providers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland earlier this year, umlaut adapted its testing methodology to the US market, and together we developed the new 2020 EV Charging Infrastructure Best-in-Test award. Testing took place in EV hotspot California, in early September 2020.
