UQM PowerPhase Pro 100 electric drive systems are powering a fleet of hydrogen fuel cell London taxicabs during the 2012 Olympic Games. This fleet joins another previously announced UQM-powered vehicle at the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

UQM powers test-fleet vehicles by Audi in Germany, Rolls-Royce and the London Taxi Company in the UK, and previously, Saab vehicles in Sweden. UQM is also powering Hino electric city buses in Japan and demonstration vehicles for EV Engineering in Australia.

The system was developed by Williams Hybrid Power, GKN, and GKN-Evo, with Go Ahead group performing a fleet trial on a number of different bus types to validate the system performance. Following successful trials on buses in London, Go-Ahead intends to utilize the technology in cities it serves across the UK, initially in London and Oxford.

GKN Land Systems is ramping up production of its Gyrodrive electric flywheel hybrid technology for buses following successful trials in London and the start of UK production. In June, GKN’s Gyrodrive system helped power Audi Motorsport’s hybrid race car to a third consecutive victory in the Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race.

In addition to the commercial vehicle customers, UQM PowerPhase electric propulsion systems have also been selected to power CODA Automotive passenger cars, as well as the Audi A1 e-tron, Rolls-Royce 102EX Electric Phantom and fuel cell London Taxi pre-production test fleet vehicles.
