As you will see in a minute, with the passing of a year and perhaps becoming a bit wiser, I’ve reduced my forecasts a fair amount for various models (although I’m comparing US and Canada to just a new US-only forecast). Before diving in to forecasting GM’s future sales, let’s take a look at historical sales.

The study finds running out of battery power on the road (71%), lack of charging stations and/or not being able to recharge (66%) and limited mileage (59%) are the most common perceived disadvantages with electric vehicles.

VW, Daimler subsidiary Daug and Varta developed a NimH battery in the early 90s, and the VW group put the Audi duo hybrid on the road in 1997. Experts, consultants and politicians tumble over one another with forecasts. Volkswagen had begun exploring hybrid and electric drive technology in the 1990s.

Others like Audi , Daimler and VW have stated they are now stopping the development of new internal combustion engines altogether. There are three main electric vehicle drivetrain designs that an EV manufacturer can choose to pursue: battery powered , hybrid , and or fuel cell. Each option has its own strengths and weaknesses.
