The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will award more than $4.4 million in Alternative Fuels Incentive Grants to 12 projects across the state. The project is expected to displace 250,000 gallons of diesel fuel and eliminate nearly 369 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) awarded $516,637 in clean diesel grants to four organizations. The clean diesel program’s goal is to improve air quality by decreasing emissions from diesel-powered transit bus and school bus fleets.

Pennsylvania recently announced the investment of $7.9 million in 21 alternative fuel projects in the state. —$750,000—to purchase 29 compressed natural gas ( CNG ) and electric/plug-in vehicles , and to install 10 public electric vehicle charging stations—the first of their kind in Pennsylvania.

Appalachian area natural gas producer EQT Corporation launched a pilot program to begin converting drilling rigs to liquefied natural gas (LNG), displacing the diesel used to power equipment at the well site. The LNG being used for EQT’s pilot program is produced locally from Marcellus natural gas reserves.

UPS plans to build an additional six compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations and add 390 new CNG tractors and terminal trucks and 50 liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles to its alternative fuel and advanced technology fleet. The enhanced LNG fueling infrastructure will support the operation of approximately 1,000 UPS LNG tractors that will displace more than 24 million gallons of diesel fuel annually. UPS has used LNG vehicles for more than a decade and has benefited from lower fuel prices compared to imported petroleum.
