On Tuesday Obama announced rules that will bring new cars and trucks sold in the USA to an average of 35.5miles per gallon by 2016 - around 10mpg above today’s standards. Toyota has responded by vowing to continue to develop more green technology. Passenger cars will need to reach 39mpg while light trucks must hit 30mpg.
