Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has selected Toshiba Corporation’s SCiB battery ( earlier post ) to power two new models of electric vehicles (EV), the i-MiEV and MINICAB-MiEV. The CHAdeMO—Charge to Move—standard was developed and agreed by a coalition of Japanese companies including Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy Industries. The target is to have a network of quick charge stations across Europe with several thousand units in place by the end of 2012 and tens of thousands by 2015.

The stations will be compatible with both the CCS plug used by electric vehicles manufactured by BMW, GM, and Volkswagen, and the CHAdeMO plug used by Kia, Nissan, and Mitsubishi. The fast chargers will enable EV drivers to recharge their batteries in about 30 minutes.
