Cadillac introduced the 2015 Escalade, the fourth-generation of the luxury SUV. Offered with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains, the Escalade features a new 6.2L There is no new hybrid model to replace the MY2013 Escalade two-mode hybrid, which was dropped in MY 2014 due to low sales (about 2%, according to a Cadillac spokesperson).

Shanghai GM has outlined the next phase of its “Drive to Green” product strategy—launched in 2008 ( earlier post )—for 2011-2015. The joint venture between GM and SAIC intends to reduce fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions by 15% while improving performance 14% by 2015. Several targets announced in 2008 have already been achieved.

Including the Cadillac Escalade, SUV sales are up 32%. Combined sales of Chevrolet and GMC large SUVs, which are all new for the 2015 model year, were up 25% compared with a year ago. Cadillac Escalade deliveries nearly doubled and Cadillac’s estimated share of the large luxury SUV segment is now about 37% on a retail basis.

With more new models, the expansion of its local manufacturing capability and a growing dealer network, GM expects to increase Cadillac sales from 30,000 units last year to 100,000 units in 2015. GM currently offers five SUVs in China: the Buick Encore and Enclave, Cadillac SRX and Escalade, and Chevrolet Captiva.
