Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) plans to debut three new electrified models—two BEVs and a PHEV—in the US market this year. These initiatives are further steps toward achieving the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, introduced in 2015. The PHEV is much less expensive to buy and own, compared to the BEV.

In an effort to further understand and expand the possibilities of smart charging for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), BMW of North America announced a second phase of its BMW ChargeForward program. If a customer does not opt-out, the vehicle charging can be shifted to meet the needs of the energy grid.

For the purposes of the executive order and action plan, ZEVs include hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The Executive Order established several milestones organized into three time periods: by 2015, by 2020, and by 2025.
