The 2012 Prius Plug-in also offers consumers eligibility for the State of California’s HOV lane sticker. While in EV Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles.

The Prius Plug-in is available in 15 states (California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Hawaii). The 2013 Prius Plug-in Hybrid is EPA rated at 95 mpge (combined), with a 50 mpg combined rating for conventional hybrid operation.

The resulting new national standards will cover model years 2012-2016, and will require an average fuel economy standard of 35.5 mpg in 2016 (39 mpg for cars, 30 mpg for trucks), or approximately 250 grams CO 2 /mile. The CAFE program established by the EISA 2007 legislation specified a minimum 35 mpg in 2020.
