Daimler is entering the commercial and residential stationary energy storage system (ESS) market with its wholly-owned subsidiary Deutsche ACCUmotive. BMW i announced a home stationary energy storage system solution integrating its BMW i3 vehicle battery at EVS 29 in Montréal. The battery storage system electrified by BMW i can be equipped with new or second-life batteries. The system has been designed to be integrated into the house energy supply chain.

Vattenfall and the BMW Group have signed a contract for the delivery of up to 1,000 lithium-ion batteries this year. Vattenfall will purchase the new batteries from the BMW plant in Dingolfing and use them in all storage projects. Other possible applications would be electricity storage in private households. Ford has into a partnership with Johnson Controls-Saft (JCS) to develop advanced lithium-ion battery system to power Ford’s first production plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) beginning in 2012. Ford’s current demonstration fleet of Escape plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) is using JCS Li-ion packs.
