Bob Lutz, the outgoing vice chairman of GM, has said the company will produce about 8,000 Chevy Volts in 2011. In March, BYD chief executive officer Wang Chuanfu announced that in the first half of 2010 the company will sell only 100 e6 cars, to a taxi company in Shenzhen. Total cars initially available: 4,700.

Li said although the market in new energy vehicles was yet to take off due to the lack of a large-scale battery recharging network or sufficient government subsidies, the firm is confident it can make a difference. The company has said earlier the hybrid car is scheduled to go on sale in the United States and Europe in 2011.

It is also working on production of the Model S saloon car, which is planned for release in 2011 and has already received 1,500 pre-orders. Other models in its fleet include: the e6, an all-electric crossover with a 250mile electric range; and the F6DM, a planned plug-in hybrid midsize saloon car with a 62mile electric range.

Also at the Paris Air Show, EADCO and PC-Aero are presenting their two-motor electric aircraft project “Elektro E6”. The Elektro E6 is envisioned to feature a full carbon composite structure, two motors, high wing propeller, solar cells technology, 6 seats, 480 kg (1,058 lb) payload and 500-km (311-mile) range. and 1 hour, EADS said.
