This definitely isn’t an ideal way of doing things, but the hope is that future innovations in recycling technologies will come up with a solution. Even relatively new cars like this 2011 Nissan Leaf could end having major components recycled.

Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna. Committed to sales of 10,000 or more vehicles in late 2010, with increasing production in 2011. No announced plans.

In addition to a recent electric car deal with NISSAN Motors ( NSANY ), Portland General Electric, the Oregon state governor and GE have also announced a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors ( MMTOF.PK ) to develop and sell the Miev electric car with 85 mile range by 2011. By 2011 look for a larger THINK Ox.

Teslas new Model S will be pure EV and will get 160 miles per charge for $49,900 and for a bit more $$ you can get the 230 or 300 mile battery options. Oh, and it looks wayyyyy cooler than the Volt. You guys go ahead and buy your 40 mile per charge GM golf cart.
