At the SAE 2009 World Congress last week, engineers from Honda R&D Co described the development of a variable compression ratio (VCR) engine that is enabled by a dual piston mechanism. The team began work on the VCR mechanism as a reaction to drawbacks in current approaches aimed at aiding fuel efficiency in petrol engines.
