GE South African Technologies (GESAT), GE Transportation’s entity in South Africa, will supply 100 locomotives to Transnet Freight Rail (TFR). GE Transportation has an installed base of some 1,200 GE locomotives in Africa including approximately 900 in South Africa.

Optimal Energy , the Cape Town, South Africa-based company that unveiled the Joule full battery-electric multi-purpose urban passenger vehicle to the world at the Paris Motor Show in 2008 ( earlier post ), plans to have pilot fleets on the road in South Africa and globally from 2010 onwards, with mass production to start in South Africa from 2012.

Ford Motor Company officially launched the new Ford Fiesta into the China market on the southern resort island of Hainan. China is the world’s first market to introduce the four-door Fiesta sedan. The Fiesta was Ford’s second best-selling vehicle in Europe’s main 19 markets in 2008.
