A Foss Maritime Company’ Green Assist hybrid tug ( earlier post ) has joined the Foss fleet for the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, California. This initiative follows a 2008 incentive program that put into service more than 2,200 trucks that currently meet or exceed 2007 US EPA emission standards. Since the launch of the Clean Truck Program on 1 October 2008, pollution at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex has been reduced by more than 23%, according to the Commission.

The OGV Fuel Regulation was adopted by the ARB in 2008 and implementation began on 1 July 2009. So not only is climate change-driven drought cutting our fresh water supply, but the way we use water here also adds to our greenhouse gas emissions. We Californians are very proud of our state’s Global Warming Solutions law, AB 32, that mandates greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced to 1990 levels by the year 2020.

In 2002 when she was just a freshman California Assemblywoman, this former school teacher worked with Bluewater Network (which later merged with Friends of the Earth ) to author the Assembly Bill that made California the first state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in automobiles. That “V2G&# over the wheel stands for Vehicle to Grid.
