The vehicles run on lithium ion batteries which, using specialist, high-power charging equipment, can be can be fast charged in less than fifteen minutes. Established in 2008, it has already converted eight Lotuses, and is working on five VW Golfs. The longer term plan is to import electric cars.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Batteries not ready.

A123Systems will manufacture Nanophosphate Lithium ion prismatic battery cells, modules and battery packs for Chrysler LLC. Total sales worldwide in 2008 were 2 million vehicles.
