For a bunch of electric-car owning acolytes, our readers are surprisingly sanguine about the reduction and eventual expiration of plug-in tax credits on electric-car sales. We've reported extensively on the expiring tax credits, which will affect models from Tesla and GM in 2019.

Legislation proposed in the Senate by Senators Obama, Hatch and Cantwell to offer tax credits to convert hybrids to plug-ins now has its counterpart in Congressman Ed Markey's House bill. Unfortunately, consumer tax incentives for the purchase of plug in hybrids were not included. Although consumer tax credits for PHEVs enjoyed bipartisan support in both houses of Congress, concerns over other tax portions of the energy bill resulted in the entire tax package being removed from the original bill.

Increases for hydrogen fuel cell research from $289 million in FY 2007 to $309 million in FY 2008. Automakers already have begun lobbying for the Bush Administration and Congress to support further research funding after the $1.2 I guess that wasn't enough to actually make a marketable, economic car. We need cars.

He makes his living off cars that run out of gas or break down because of the inadequacies of the internal combustion gasoline powered engine. You think HE’s anxious to see electric cars replace fossil fueled vehicles? I think the hefty carbon tax we’ll be levying on Exxon/Mobil can pay for the whole thing.
