The Nikkei reports that Mercedes-Benz Japan Co. This will be the first imported hybrid passenger car sold in Japan. Prices have not yet been set, but the hybrid S-Class will very likely sell for around 12-13 million yen. Daimler AG will begin sales of the hybrid in Europe during the first half of 2009.

Honda’s new CEO, Takanobu Ito has today announced plans to begin sales in Japan of the CR-Z sports hybrid model in February 2010. The start date for EU sales of the new hybrid coupe will be released towards the end of 2009. The CR-Z concept vehicle made its world debut at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show in 2007.

Car maker, Toyota is set to lease over 150 units of its next generation Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) to selected fleet customers across Europe as part of a three-year programme. In partnership with EDF, Toyota has been road-testing its current generation PHV (equipped with a Nickel Metal Hydride battery) in Europe since 2007.

AESC will market its laminated compact lithium-ion batteries to automotive manufacturers around the world for use in electric-powered vehicles (hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles). During FY2007 and FY2008, per-unit CO2 emission from all the Nissan plants was globally reduced by 10% (compared to 2005 level).
