The planet’s ocean surface temperature was the warmest on record for July, breaking the previous high mark established in 1998 according to an analysis by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center. The combined average global land and ocean surface temperature for July 2009 ranked fifth-warmest since world-wide records began in 1880.

A 2009 Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Governors of the eleven states committed the states to developing a program framework and conducting an economic analysis of the potential impacts of the program. The plan assumes carbon intensity will be reduced 10% from 2007 levels by 2023, with reductions beginning in 2014.

As our climate change crisis worsens and spins out of control with each passing day there’s no time to spare for those of us whose job it is to educate and motivate our fellow citizens to actions that cut our greenhouse gas emissions.
