Lane Transit District (LTD) in Oregon has awarded New Flyer a contract for 11 Xcelsior CHARGE battery-electric forty-foot heavy-duty transit buses, including seven ABB depot chargers to support electric bus infrastructure development. LTD has a longstanding commitment to sustainability.

The states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho cut back their per-capita gasoline consumption by 5% in 2008, according to a new analysis by the Sightline Institute. Weekly gas sales in the Northwest states declined from 7.8 The 2008 fall in per-capita Northwest gas consumption was just the largest of these declines.

The US Environmental Agency (EPA) has granted California’s waiver request enabling the state to enforce its greenhouse gas emissions standards (Pavley I) for new motor vehicles, beginning with the current model year. The request was subsequently denied in December 2007. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.

Auxiliary power to docked ships, usually provided by on-board diesel engines, is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, accounting for one-third to one-half of the in-port emissions attributed to ocean-going vessels. So hydrogen fuel cell auxiliary power has the opportunity for greater impact elsewhere.
