Per-Capita Gasoline Consumption in Pacific Northwest Fell 5% in 2008; Down 15% Since 1999

The states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho cut back their per-capita gasoline consumption by 5% in 2008, according to a new analysis by the Sightline Institute. 2009’s first quarter VMT was at the same level as 2004’s first quarter VMT. Total gasoline use fell by 180 million gallons in those Pacific Northwest states.

EPA Grants California Vehicle GHG Regulations Waiver

In September 2004 the California Air Resources Board (ARB) passed regulations to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) from new passenger vehicles starting in 2009. These regulations were authorized by the 2002 legislation Assembly Bill 1493 (Pavley). California is preserving its right to establish more stringent standards in the future.

Sandia study finds fuel cell barges may be attractive lower-cost cold-ironing solution for some types of vessels at some ports
