During the SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, Gary Kissel of General Motors presented an update of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicle standards being revised or developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Hybrid Standards Committee. The standard, which is based on a similar document developed by the US.

General Motors plans to unveil the Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid, sometime in 2010, and Toyota may begin selling a plug-in Prius in late 2010 or early 2011. According to agency documents, the tests likely will cost about $20,000 to $25,000 per vehicle. 3Prong Power only works on Prius model years 2004 to 2009.
