London initially pioneered hydrogen buses in the UK when it took part in the Cleaner Urban Transport for Europe (CUTE) trial from December 2003 to January 2007. The buses are jointly funded by TfL, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the European Union via the Clean Hydrogen in Cities (CHIC) project.

Faced with the rising threat of climate change, one of the government’s first major steps to combat dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions in the country was introduce the Congestion Charge. The London Congestion Charge was first introduced in 2003. You only have to look to the London Congestion Charge for proof of that.
