SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) announced today that the assembly of its Chevrolet Move—sold as the Wuling Rong Guang in China—will be assembled at General Motors Egypt starting in the third quarter of 2012. Vehicle kits will be supplied by GM China’s SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture.

On October 14, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) became the first vehicle manufacturer in China to sell 1 million units in the domestic market this year. But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. It isa fundamental change in direction for GM. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. GM is developing more fuel-efficient vehicles. Thats short-sighted.
