A colour-coded car fuel economy label as used for new cars has been adapted for the sale of used cars, making it easier for consumers to access fuel efficiency data of potential purchases. The initiative builds on the success of the new car fuel economy label, which is now widely recognised by consumers.

The data show that for private cars, the difference between on-road and official CO 2 values rose from around 8% in 2001 to 31% in 2013.
