The hybrid models are equipped with a NiMH battery pack. Due to initial product availability, the hybrid models will follow a roll-out approach and will be available in the following markets in December of 2011: New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and California.

A 35 kW NiMH battery pack (about 1.8 More than 80,000 people in New York, Washington, DC, and Greater Los Angeles, volunteered to drive the vehicles as part of Project Driveway, which began in November 2007. Drivers refill at hydrogen stations in New York, Washington, and Southern California.

2003 Washington Post article on crushing of EV1s. I kept asking GM people when the car was going into production. But things changed for Cox when GM came out with a new version of the EV1 with a non-toxic nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery with more than twice the energy of the original lead acid battery.

The acceleration was significantly better than my RAV, no doubt due to the Li-Ion battery pack weighing about 400-500 lbs less than the Toyota’s NiMH pack. Several other states are considering additional tax credits : Texas, Florida, Oregon and Washington, to name a few. I was very impressed with the ride.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. Partnering with Alcoa, Duke Energy, Google.org, Johnson Controls Indiana startup plans to unveil vehicle May 2009 at EVS-24 in Norway; mass production in 2012. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.
