U Alberta study shows for the first time that sunlight causes chemical reactions in road dust; singlet oxygen

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the University of Alberta (Canada) have shown for the first time that road dust is photochemically active; i.e., sunlight causes chemical reactions in the dust. Although many studies have investigated the composition and toxicity of road dust, up until this study, nothing was known regarding its photochemical reactivity.

Indago flies above structures engulfed in flames and maps out the hot zones, on which K-Max then drops flame retardant or water. As part of the job, in Oghara, Nigeria, then a small fishing village along the Niger River, he collected fares and directed passengers on and off the bus. They didn’t remain mysterious for long.

Tohoku researchers develop efficient hydrodynamic reactor for pretreatment of biomass

Green Car Congress

Researchers at Tohoku University in Japan have developed a new system combining hydrodynamic cavitation with sodium percarbonate (SP) (an environmentally benign oxidation reagent) for the efficient pre-treatment of biomass. These bubbles subsequently collapse when the pressure increases downstream of the constriction.
