UC Davis study highlights results of MINI E field trial in US; MINI E met 90% of daily driving needs

The University of California, Davis and the BMW Group released the largest publicly available study of electric-car users yet conducted, including more than 120 families who drove the fully electric MINI E automobile more than 1 million miles in California, New York and New Jersey from June 2009 to June 2010.

BMW’s hybrid motor design seeks to deliver high efficiency and power density with lower rare earth use

The motor offers linear power delivery extending into high rev ranges, with maximum revs of 11,400 rpm. Notably, in its first experimental dip into electrical vehicles with the Mini-E, BMW also used an AC induction motor, provided by AC Propulsion. Reluctance motors include no magnet material on their rotors.
