Toyota has hit the millionth sale milestone for its hybrids in Europe with the delivery of an Auris hybrid to a driver in Germany. Two-thirds of the hybrid sales in Europe are made in Europe.

Cumulative global sales of Toyota Motor Corporation’s (TMC’s) hybrid vehicles—including plug-in hybrids— topped the 5 million unit mark as of 31 March 2013, reaching 5.125 million units. Last year, hybrid vehicles accounted for 14% of TMC’s global vehicle sales and 40% of its vehicle sales in Japan.

At the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced that European sales of hybrid vehicles reached an all-time high in 2013 totaling 156,863 units, up 43% year-on-year. In Western Europe, 28% of all Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold are hybrid models. Hybrid models now represent 18.5% percentage point share gain to 4.7%.
