Fortunately, two wonderful people helped me push the car to a near by parking space across some local light rail tracks (we had to dodge the MAX light rail, yikes!). Other interesting news: I'm resigning as chairperson of the local Oregon Electric Vehicle Association. I let the car sit there until 10pm to cool off.

Hacking the Regen System and Fixing Acceleration

In a comment to a prior blog entry, Paul J suggested that I try using the brake light signal from the brake pedal to activate the regenerative system. In the original kit instructions, the regen relay turns on the brake lights when the AC controller is in regen mode. I recommend this alteration to anyone using this kit!

Here goes (in no particular order): Things That Went Well During the Conversion The 914 AC kit from Electro Automotive is a good one. I modified the wiring in the original 914 AC kit (as suggested by Paul Jorg) to turn on the regen when the brake lights came on instead of controlling regen by releasing the accelerator pedal.
