The same day Consumer Reports released its devastating review of the 2012 Fisker Karma, the makers of the range-extended electric luxury sedan put out their own press release. Covering the $106,000 car's fuel economy, it reported on the real-world gas mileage achieved by a group of more than 30 Karma owners.

Fisker Automotive will debut the first factory-built Karma plug-in hybrid (PHEV) at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Fisker Automotive introduced the Karma as a concept in January 2008. The 300 kW (403 hp/408 PS) Karma reaches 100 km/h in 5.9 100 km (100 mpg) and emissions of 83 g/km, according to the company.

Fisker Automotive may have sensed that the 20-mpg EPA rating on their 2012 Karma electric sport sedan was not good news. The company simply omitted the statistic from their press release announcing that the EPA had legally certified the Karma--meaning it can now be sold to retail buyers.

When the EPA's official MPG figures were released for the 2012 Fisker Karma a few days ago, we can't have been the only ones a little disappointed with the 20 MPG figure on gasoline and 52 MPG equivalent in EV mode.
