Green cars are definitely the in-thing in the auto industry and now consumer website kbb.com (part of the Kelley Blue Book) has named its Top 10 Green Cars for 2010. Now before you wonder where the likes of the Nissan LEAF and the Chevrolet Volt are on the list – they are not yet available and [.].

The batteries supplied by Exide as part of the C3 Project performed well under the HEV screening test, especially at high temperatures. The ALABC tested Furukawa’s UltraBattery modules in 2010 in a Honda Insight demonstrator and also reached the 100,000-mile mark, but the results were achieved on a test track in Millbrook, UK.

Times change fairly quickly in the automotive industry - it wasn’t too long ago that Mazda announced that it had no interest in hybrid cars. He also admitted that the company’s discussions over hybrid models have been prompted, at least in part, by the fact that almost everybody else is going down a similar route.

Unless/until PV cells become more efficient, and are part of the original installation, they will seriously affect the cars aerodynamics and will be far less durable than metal. Honda Insight, Civic and Accord use an entirely different design: the electric motor never runs without the gasoline engine running at the same time.
