Hybrid sales already account for 23% of Toyota Motor Europe’s (TME’s) total sales year-to-date. In August, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that Toyota and Lexus combined had sold more than eight million hybrid cars worldwide since the launch of the Toyota Prius in 1997. TME will add the RAV4 Hybrid in January next year.

Sales of hybrid-electric vehicles in the UK have steadily risen over the past five years, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. From 2007 up to the end of the first quarter of this year, almost 100,000 hybrid vehicles have been sold in the UK; the market share of hybrids has almost doubled, from 0.7%

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has cumulatively sold more than 2 million hybrid vehicles since the launch in 1997 in Japan of the Coaster Hybrid EV in August and the Prius in December. Total combined Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicle sales in the US have topped the one million mark, according to Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA. Toyota launched of the Prius in late 1997 in the Japan market, and in the US in July 2000. The first-generation US Prius was a low-volume vehicle (12,000 produced annually).

Toyota posted 7,232 units of the Prius, down 33.6% The GS 450h posted 22 units, a 71.4% of all GS models. General Motors. New hybrid sales represented 2.3% of the new vehicle market, essentially flat with the January 2009 results. In February 2008, hybrids held 1.9% of the new vehicle sales for the month.
