A first test setup located near Ingolstadt recently started supplying the grid. With AWC, the energy is transferred via a floor charging plate connected to the electric grid.

The electric grid is the most advanced energy-distribution network ever created and is constantly only a few feet away from us (far more ubiquitous than gas/ethanol/hydrogen stations). Lithium, nickel metal hydrides and even advanced lead acid products are now capable of great energy storage and have strong recycle lives.

Today we could be using lead-acid EVs, lead-carbon-acid EVs, or nickel metal hydride or lithium-ion hybrids. The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants.
