The NYPD already uses electric scooters and electric powered golf carts on boardwalks, in parks and some transit hubs. As part of its selection as the supplier of New York City’s Taxi of Tomorrow, Nissan is working with the City and taxi owners on a pilot program to study the use of zero-emission electric vehicles as taxis.

Another notable battery car, though its producer decided to skip the Shanghai show, is a super-low-cost, two-seat mini electric car that Chinese parts producer Wonder Auto Technology Inc. and Korean golf cart maker CT&T Co. are expected to begin producing jointly this summer. Ted Kulongoski behind the wheel of Nissan’s prototype electric vehicle. At a press event on Monday, Oregon’s governor, Ted Kulongoski, was talking up Nissan’s previously announced partnership with the state. According to Nissan, the company plans to introduce its upcoming electric car in Oregon in late 2010.
