Todays hybrids have small battery packs and cannot be recharged from the utility grid system. It also should be noted that Pikes Peak was one of General Motors (NYSE: GM) testing ground programs which used the downgrade road of the mountain to do the break testing of its own vehicles. As part of the solution framework, the Israeli government will provide tax incentives to customers, Renault will supply the electric vehicles, and Project Better Place will construct and operate an Electric Recharge Grid across the entire country. Electric vehicles will be available for customers in 2011.

But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. It isa fundamental change in direction for GM. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. GM is developing more fuel-efficient vehicles. Thats short-sighted.
