Waste Management has launched a new local fleet in Louisville, Kentucky of 25 clean-burning CNG trucks and unveiled Louisville’s first public-access, 24-hour compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station. A scarcity of CNG fueling stations limits broader use of CNG-powered vehicles.

The Transit Authority of River City (TARC), serving the Greater Louisville area, has begun adding six new all-electric Proterra buses along the Fourth Street corridor between downtown and Iroquois Park, stopping at some of the city’s most popular destinations. Louisville Metro contributed $500,000. Regular fare ($1.75 4-Fourth Street.

The RNG agreements will help UPS reach a key sustainability goal: 40% of all ground transportation fleet fuel from sources other than conventional gasoline and diesel by 2025. Natural gas is a proven alternative fuel to gasoline and diesel and is a key building block for our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our ground fleet.

A fully-integrated, CNG bi-fuel system, the WiNG Power System is based on Ford’s new 6.2L On average, the Westport WiNG powered Ford pickups are expected to save fleets upwards of $2 per gallon in fuel costs, and depending on miles driven, can demonstrate a payback in about two years or less.
