The fast acceleration capability of electric vehicles was a key component to reducing the “golf cart” image of EVs that existed before the Tesla Model S emerged in 2012. What we need are compelling reasons for people to buy an EV — and Ford has nailed it with its F-150 Lightning.

I tested the covered version, which felt essentially like a golf cart. To put this into perspective, this electric cargo trike is rated to carry just as much load as an F-150 and more than many smaller pickup trucks in the US. Yadea had two of their three-wheelers set up for me to test.

It was needed to eliminate the view by many that EVs were simplify glorified golf carts. The public has seen President Biden accelerate in a Ford F-150 Lighting. In the early days of the modern EV all of about 10 years ago, quick acceleration was an important selling point and positioning message. EVs are quick.
