Ford Motor Company is tripling production capacity of its electrified vehicle lineup through 2013 to more than 100,000 units, further boosting volumes of its C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid ( earlier post ), which begin production next year. This allows it to run in electric mode before using the gasoline engine.

GM sold 2,633 units of the Volt extended range electric vehicle in December, up 72.2% Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA, Inc. Ford also posted sales of 3,244 units of the Fusion Hybrid in December, with 14,100 for the year. The plug-in version of the Fusion Hybrid is going on sale. Click to enlarge.

However, the electric drive portion of the vehicles, including the motor, electronics and A123 System lithium ion battery pack is identical. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers. Motor Trend Magazine has extensive coverage of all cars online including road tests, free videos, buying guides, etc.
