The study was conducted in 2018 by West Virginia University’s Center of Alternatives Fuels, Engines, and Emissions (CAFEE). West Virginia University’s Center for Alternative Fuels Engines and Emissions (CAFEE) completed two types of tests at different times of the year during 2018 on four Blue Bird school buses.

As described in the NOV, software installed in the electronic control module (ECM) on the affected vehicles detects when the car is undergoing official emissions testing. The alleged violations do not present a safety hazard; the cars remain legal to drive and resell. EPA call this software “the switch”. —EPA NOV.

The entire extracted gas volume then is reintroduced into the FGD outlet transition duct where it is mixed with the FGD exhaust gas. As the next step in demonstrations of increasing size, the first of two product validation facilities recently began at the American Electric Power (AEP) Mountaineer Plant in New Haven, West Virginia.
