Growth of alternative powertrain vehicles sales will be limited by consumer concerns about costs as well as functionality, according to the newly-released J.D. Power and Associates 2011 US Green Automotive Study. The bottom line is that most consumers want to be green, but not if there is a significant personal cost to them.

In addition, the EPA gave the all-new minivan a rating of 10 in its Green Vehicle Guide. The score relates to a vehicle’s combined performance on fuel economy and greenhouse-gas emissions. This marks the first time a minivan has achieved a 10—the highest possible rating—in this category.

The low emission adaptation(s) fitted must control both particulate and gaseous emissions in the vehicle exhaust by whatever means is selected by the adaptation supplier. New technologies will need to provide robust, independent relevant test data of the performance, prior to being considered for CVRAS accreditation.

Mike O’Brien, Hyundai vice president of corporate and product planning, noted that the “green car market” in the US has declined a bit—about one hundred thousand units since its high in 2013 with 3.8% market share for all electrified vehicles (hybrid, PHEV and BEV). This is our first dedicated green vehicle.
