Direct injection of both fuels in RCCI may offer a way to decrease HC and CO emissions without sacrificing efficiency and NOx/PM benefits

Green Car Congress

These zones ignite earlier, thereby advancing the combustion event and increasing cylinder temperatures, causing an increase in NO x and PM and a decrease in CO. CR Gasoline, in which gasoline was injected through the higher-pressure common rail injector, allowing for much later injections of large quantities of gasoline.

Promising Delphi 1st-gen Gasoline Direct Injection Compression Ignition engine meeting ultra fuel efficient program targets

Green Car Congress

GDCI engine was significantly better than advanced production spark injection gasoline engines, and comparable to very efficient hybrid vehicle engines at their best efficiency conditions (214 g/kWh). This early work established that gasoline-like fuels with high resistance to autoignition are preferred for PPCI. Background.

OPOC maker Achates Power now concept-ready; ready to develop multi-cylinder engines for competitive demonstrations

Green Car Congress

Johnson said that currently, Achates can deliver a 12-16% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the best diesel, and about 50% against gasoline, and with a cost and size reduction. A common-rail fuel injection system supports injection pressures up to 2000 bar, and can deliver multiple injection events per engine cycle.
